Strobilanthes Crispus, Black Face General, Pecah Beling Plant

Hi there, dear friends

I first heard of this Hak Min Jeong Guan (?Black Face General? in the Cantonese dialect) many years ago when a friend of mine took this herb regularly as a cancer-prevention measure when both her parents passed away from cancer within one year.? This plant?s scientific name is ?Strobilanthes Crispus?, in Malay it?s ?Pecah Beling?, ?Keji Beling? in Indonesia and ?Hei Mian Jiang Jun? in Mandarin.

My lady healer friend gave me a small plant to grow and it took me about 2 years to grow it into a healthy bush in my limited garden space before? I was able to harvest and boil this herb regularly for my family to drink.?

The recipe is really easy ? just fill up a large pot with the Hak Min Jeong Guan (HMJG) leaves (I used the stems also), 4 dried Buddha Fruits or Loh Hon Guo (the fruits are good for lungs and are naturally sweet), water and boil over a low fire for 2 hours. When cooled , store in the fridge and drink a cup daily over the next few days.

Other than primarily being used as an anti-cancer herb, the HMJG is also very high in anti-oxidants, has phenolic compounds to treat kidney stones, and is good for treating kidney diseases and gallstones, as found in clinical studies.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, this herb is a diuretic with laxative qualities to purge kidney stones, is anti-diabetic, and can counter body heatiness as well as detoxify the body.

I remember at one time when my family had Korean BBQ for dinner, drinking a cup of this HMJG brew was able to get rid my headache (due to the heatiness of the food consumed) in just half an hour.? So, it is good to have some of this herbal drink ready in your fridge whenever your family have some heaty foods, or drink this as for health maintenance every 2 weeks or once a month.
