Olympic visitors were told on Sunday to avoid non-urgent text messages and tweets during events because overloading of data networks was affecting television coverage.
Commentators on Saturday?s men?s cycling road race were unable to tell viewers how far the leaders were ahead because data could not get through from the cyclists GPS units. The data from tiny GPS transmitters in competitors? bikes could not being received during the races due to clogged pipes.
IOC Communications Director Mark Adams told The Guardian; it appeared the problem lay with oversubscription on one particular network, and talks had taken place in an attempt to share more of the data. ?It?s a network issue, and it is that which we are working on,? he said.
There are 10 Olympic track cycling events (five for each gender) that will be held in the purpose built velodrome. There are two road cycling races at London 2012: the road race and time trial. BMX cycling events will also be held.
MapMyTracks has a live map of the Road Race, scheduled for the first and second days of the full sport competition of the Olympic Games. TorchTracker used GPS to track the location of the Olympic Torch.
In other Olympic news, a bridge connecting London?s West Ham tube station to the Olympic Park will light up from the millions of feet traversing the bridge. The kinetic energy of footspteps is turned into light, using Pavegen tiles. The tiles only move 5 millimeters when stepped on, so daytime pedestrians may barely even notice them without looking down. A surplus of 30 percent is stored in batteries as contingency.
The slabs also have wireless transmitters, allowing pedestrians to use their computers or smart phones to see how much energy is being generated.
David Stubbs, head of sustainability at the London Organizing Committee, put it this way: ?We want people coming to the Games to be able to do their bit for the environment and this is a great example where, literally in a few steps, people can actively contribute towards making these truly sustainable Games.? London 2012 is the first Olympics to measure its carbon footprint over the entire project term;
The widespread use of energy-efficient technology is one of the main features of London 2012. ?This foot-powered lighting system for one of the main walkways into the Olympic Park ? will really get people thinking about how an individual can make a difference, while getting to and from their events,? said transport director, Hugh Sumner.

Google?s (GOOG) Android is still the leading smartphone platform in the United States by a huge margin, but that margin narrowed a bit in the second quarter according to a new report. Market research firm Strategy Analytics on Monday issued its smartphone shipment estimates for the second-quarter of 2012, and it doesn?t paint a pretty picture for the market as a whole.
According to the firm?s data, U.S. smartphone shipments fell 5% annually to 24 million units in the second quarter, with Android smartphones responsible for the bulk of the decline. Among the likely cases for the decline, Strategy Analytics lists ?a volatile economy, maturing penetration of smartphones among contract mobile subscribers, and major operators tightening their upgrade policies to enhance profits.?

Sales of Android smartphones into U.S. distribution channels fell to 13.4 million units in the second quarter this year from 15.3 million units in the same quarter last year. Android?s share of the U.S. market slid to 56% from 61% as a result.
During the same period, Apple?s (AAPL) share of the U.S. smartphone channels sales shot up to 33% from 23% a year earlier, an annual growth rate of 43%. Apple shipped an estimated 7.9 million iPhones?in the U.S. during the second quarter this year compared to 5.9 million units in the second quarter of 2011 according to Strategy Analytics.
?We estimate Android shipped 13.4 million smartphones for 56 percent share of the United States market in the second quarter of 2012,? said Strategy Analytics?analyst Neil Mawtson. ?This was down from 15.3 million units shipped and 61 percent share a year earlier. Android remains the number one platform by volume in the United States, but its market share is approaching a peak and Apple iOS has been gaining ground. Apple?s US market share has risen by ten points from 23 percent in Q2 2011 to 33 percent in Q2 2012. Apple is rumored to be launching a new iPhone in the coming weeks, and that event, if it takes place, is going to heap even more pressure on Android in its home market.?
Finally, the firm notes that shipments of BlackBerry smartphones sank to 1.6 million units last quarter compared to 2.7 million in the June quarter last year.

In this July 9, 2012, photo, a steel beam bridge crosses over the traffic of Ponce De Leon Avenue as part the BeltLine, a transportation project being built within the old rail corridor which will eventually connect 45 neighborhoods with public use trails and a light rail line, in Atlanta. When Georgia voters head to the polls on July 31, some of the state's political and business leaders claim they will be deciding no less than the future of the region for decades to come. Among the most contested races on the primary ballot is a transportation infrastructure referendum that would create a penny sales tax in 12 districts across the state, potentially raising billions of dollars to fund hundreds of projects over the next 10 years. But transportation has proven a controversial candidate, and the issue could be a hard sell in the weeks leading up to the election. (AP Photo/David Goldman)
ATLANTA (AP) ? For decades, Atlanta has been the economic engine of the South, a dynamic city on the move. But if you've ever gotten behind the wheel here, it doesn't feel that way.
The Atlanta metropolitan area has some of the worst traffic in America, with drivers routinely stuck in monumental, bumper-to-bumper jams that can turn a 10-minute trip into a miserable, one-hour slog.
Hoping to ease the gridlock, the region's political and business leaders are pushing for a 1-cent increase in the sales tax to pay for billions of dollars in highway improvements and other transportation projects. The proposed tax is on Tuesday's ballot.
Civic leaders say that Atlanta's economic future hangs in the balance, with the metropolitan area in danger of losing business to more-livable cities unless it acts now to reduce congestion.
"Tampa, Charlotte, Denver, Dallas ... they all hope we lose," said Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce President Sam Williams. "The competition has been taking advantage of this."
Atlanta's traffic problems have been 50 years in the making, a consequence of runaway growth. The metropolitan area's population swelled from nearly 1.6 million in 1960 to more than 5.2 million in 2010, and many of the newcomers settled in suburbs radiating farther and farther from Atlanta's core.
Now those commuters are clogging the highways that run straight through the city or form a big ring around it. While Atlanta does have a commuter rail system, it is laid out basically like a big plus sign and doesn't reach many parts of the city. And there has long been opposition to expanding it.
The TomTom Congestion Index, compiled by the maker of automobile GPS devices, has ranked Atlanta the nation's eighth-most clogged city. According to the 2010 census, Atlanta had the fourth-worst commute in America, with drivers taking an average of 30 minutes to get to or from work.
From billboards to beauty shops, the campaign for the tax has been hard-fought in recent weeks, and polls suggest the vote could be close.
Metro Atlanta is one of a dozen regions across Georgia that will vote independently on the tax increase, which could generate a total of more than $18 billion statewide for transportation projects over the next decade.
Atlanta stands to gain the biggest share. Supporters estimate the 1-cent increase would generate more than $8.4 billion between 2013 and 2022. The sales tax in the region is now around 5 or 6 cents on the dollar in most cases.
Each region developed a list of projects involving such things as roads, bridges, mass transit, ports, airports and bicycle and pedestrian facilities. Metro Atlanta's list is heavy on road projects ? including the widening or resurfacing of highways, the building of new ramps and reconstruction of a busy interchange ? and light on mass transit.
Opposition in metro Atlanta has crossed political and racial lines, creating unlikely allies and adversaries.
Pro-business Republicans, including Gov. Nathan Deal, are finding themselves at odds with tea-party leaders in the GOP, who argue government can't be trusted to manage the tax revenue responsibly.
The fiscal conservatives have made common cause with black Democrats, who say the plan doesn't do enough to help poor people and minorities because it devotes little to mass transit and overlooks some sections of the city, and with environmental groups, which fear more pollution and development.
"We're just united against a bad idea," said Neill Herring of the Sierra Club. "We've got to break this sprawl habit."
Supporters have bankrolled an $8 million campaign under the banner Untie Atlanta and say the transportation projects will create jobs via the construction work itself and the improvements that will ease congestion and make the city more attractive to companies looking to relocate.
"As a result of our failure to deal with our traffic issues as other leading cities in the world are doing far more rapidly, we risk entering a period of decline," Mayor Kasim Reed said. "This is our region's leadership moment."
Nikki Strickland's commute to work in Atlanta is 30 minutes each way on a great day. But if she leaves the house in suburban Alpharetta after 7:30 a.m., it's too late. Then the drive takes an hour or more.
Her husband's trek into midtown isn't much better. "He can get completely stuck for hours if the wrong thing happens," Strickland said.
She said she is considering voting for the tax but is conflicted. Taxing groceries ? something everyone has to have, unlike a new car ? isn't fair, Strickland said. Moreover, she said, "I just don't feel like Atlanta is serious about transit. And I don't trust our institutions to do this. State government is so dysfunctional."

One of the most important pieces of kit you will need for your camping trip will be your sleeping bag, which will ensure you get a fantastic nights sleep. If you wake up groggy and still-sleepy you wont enjoy the day ahead of you, which is sure to be filled with exciting adventures. There will be more than enough things for you to do when out camping, although if you are still half asleep you certainly wont want to do any of them.
Buying your sleeping bag can be a bit of a tricky ordeal if you have never needed to do it before; as you wont have any idea of what it is that you are looking for. A lot of people think that any old sleeping bag will do but this definitely isnt the case if you want your holiday out in the wilderness to be as enjoyable as possible you should pick a high quality sleeping bag that you will then be able to use time and again.
If you have been wondering exactly how you should go about choosing the right sleeping bag you should think about three main points how warm do you want to be, are you okay with sleeping on the ground and what size of sleeping bag will you need?
Sleeping bags have TOG ratings that refer to what kind of temperature range it is designed for use in. You can get sleeping bags for all of the seasons and you should make sure that you choose the right sleeping bag for your needs so that you dont end up being too cold or too warm.
If you arent too happy to be sleeping on the ground you might want to consider using a camp bed or air bed in conjunction with your sleeping bag this will lift you off the ground slightly and is usually a bit more comfortable than simply using a sleeping bag.
When it comes to the size of your sleeping bag you will only really have two options child or adult sized. However, you can also get sleeping bags with hoods that are slightly larger as the hood works as a pillow and to keep your head warm when sleeping.
About the Author:
You should put some thought into the kind of tents and sleeping bags you will take on your camping trip so you can be as comfortable as possible.

There?s no question that there is a lot of money in oil and natural gas. Now, the State of New Mexico is cashing in on the sale of oil and natural gas leases and says they collected nearly $4 million. The State Land Office is in charge of collecting the funds.
In July alone, the Land Office collected $3.9 million from leases that allow for oil and natural gas exploration. Additionally, the leases support the development of 25 tracts covering nearly 8,000 acres of state trust land in Lea, Eddy, Chaves, Roosevelt, Sandoval and San Juan counties.?Recently, an $800,000 bid was received from Energen Resources Corp. of Farmington. Their interest surrounded a 320-acre parcel of land in Lea County.
Oil and natural gas leases are important for Los Lunas home owners and all residents of New Mexico because lease sale proceeds help support public schools, universities and state hospitals.?The next oil and gas lease sale will take place on August 21, 2012 and the Land Office is hoping for another banner month of sales.
During their latest July sale, the highest oral bid came from Crown Oil Partners of Midland, Texas. The company paid $465,000 for 480 acres of land approximately 15 miles from Hobbs, New Mexico. The highest sale per acre was $1,537.50. T. H. McElvain Oil & Gas out of Denver, Colorado?purchased approximately 80 acres also near Hobbs.
Now is a great time to purchase a Los Lunas home! With all-time low interest rates, it?s an excellent time to consider Los Lunas real estate. We are a local team of real estate agents who would love to help you find the Los Lunas home of your dreams! Please contact us if you?re interested in discussing your unique needs.

This news publishing industry generally speaking is not an easy one to get into. Firstly there is a fact that there are already a few really, very big gamers who are very well recognized in the market. And I?m not simply talking about big on the web Mark Nordlicht including the Huffington Post, but enormous multi-national media corporations using newspapers, television channels and all of the rest. So facing it you might think that a small independent publisher has absolutely no chance of making any in streets whatsoever into the forex market. But that is not necessarily true. There is still space for those small independent publishers if you find a great niche and goal it well.
And since information is such a broad community center there are plenty of potential markets which a new copy writer or publisher could choose. This could imply writing about a particular kind of news which you know a lot about, like, for example, publishing marketplace news. Or it could actually mean writing about the fundamental events of the day at a particular perspective ? so if you?re doing that and there is a truly novel standpoint to offer people then you could even forge your own personal niche ? a completely fresh niche created by anyone if you are taking this minute route.
If you are planning on setting up and jogging this kind of site after that probably the most important thing is that you simply really must cover all the big issues which are relevant to your specialized niche. People just will not likely keep coming back to your site in the numbers that you?re going to want to see if you?ll find big holes in your coverage ? even if the composing which you do release is super premium quality and super helpful and entertaining.
1 solution to this, if you?re an lone writer and don?t feel that you have the time for you to cover absolutely anything yourself, is to retain the services of freelance writers. There are plenty of sites where you can hire the self employed pretty cheaply on-line, although you will have to take care to pick the right people or perhaps you may end up with cheap work. If you do not need to pay out the money for other writers then another solution is to publish short summaries of a narrative and then provide hyperlinks to further information. Ten or fifteen minutes may be all it takes to do a little bit of study, pull together the principle facts of the report in question, and one or perhaps two quality articles to recommend. Obviously you can also solicit additions from your readers, that is not always a reliable supply of content.
But the primary thing is that you have to appear unique from the beginning. That means you must set across an unique characteristic about your site within the design, layout, vague ideal and title, and not just rely an unique writing style for the articles themselves.
Another important point this that Mark Nordlicht is very time vulnerable. What I mean by that is the fact when a news story pauses it pays off hugely to publish something immediately. And you can even get further than that. If you know your niche well you can publish stories along with rumours of what may happen or predictions of your personal, and that way you might already have relevant written content about any given tale even before it breaks ? which will give you a big boost when it comes to traffic generation for the story ahead of bigger sites who cover a larger range of topics and could therefore not have this niche expertise to determine the story coming.

The ancient Native Americans of the desert Southwest subsisted on a fiber-filled diet of prickly pear, yucca and flour ground from plant seeds, finds a new analysis of fossilized feces that may explain why modern Native Americans are so susceptible to Type II diabetes.
Thousands of years of incredibly fibrous foods, 20 to 30 times more fibrous than today's typical diet, with low impact on the blood sugar likely left this group vulnerable to the illness when richer Anglo foods made their way to North America, said study researcher Karl Reinhard, a professor of forensic sciences at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.?
"When we look at Native American dietary change within the 20th century, the more ancient traditions disappeared." Reinhard told LiveScience. "They were introduced to a whole new spectrum of foods like fry-bread, which has got a super-high glycemic index."
The glycemic index of a food is a measure of how fast its energy is absorbed into the bloodstream. It's measured on a scale of 1 to 100, with 1 being the slowest absorbing with the least effect on blood sugar. The native people who lived in the deserts of Arizona would have likely eaten traditional stews with glycemic indexes around 23, Reinhard found. Foods scoring lower than 55 are considered "low-GI" foods. [7 Foods Your Heart Will Hate]
Modern food and modern disease
Members of Southwest Native American tribes are more susceptible than Caucasians to Type II diabetes, which happens when the body either doesn't produce enough insulin to break down sugar from food, or when the body's cells fail to recognize the insulin it does produce.
Researchers have long hypothesized that a "thrifty gene" (or, more likely, genes) acquired through feast and famine makes Native American populations more prone to this chronic disease. The idea is that people who were able to rapidly adapt to both lean times and times of plenty would have done better in ancient times. Today, the modern diet has rendered famine rare in the developed world, but the body continues to respond to times of plenty as if starvation is around the corner. Diabetes and obesity can result.?
Reinhard and his colleagues now suggest that feast and famine may not be necessary for the "thrifty gene" hypothesis to make sense. Basically, Reinhard said, an extremely low-calorie, high-fiber diet made the ancient Native American gut a paragon of efficiency. With the arrival of whites, the diet changed faster than physiology could keep up with it. In other words, the digestive system didn't evolve for abundant, high-GI foods.?
High-fiber diet
To find solid evidence of what ancient Southwestern tribes actually ate, Reinhard turned to what he called "the most intimate residues from archaeological sites" ? fossilized poop. Known as coprolites, these fossils contain a record of their creator's most recent meals.
The researchers analyzed 25 coprolites from Antelope Cave in northwestern Arizona, a dwelling that was seasonally occupied for thousands of years. These particular coprolites (20 of which turned out to be human) date back to at least A.D. 1150 and earlier. The dates make the cave a perfect time to look at the transition from a total hunter-gatherer lifestyle to one supplemented by some agriculture, Reinhard said.
"It bridges two different dietary traditions, one which has been around for several thousands of years with one that was relatively newly introduced at the time the cave was occupied," he said.
The analysis revealed that these ancient people chowed down on flour made from maize and wild sunflower and other seeds, as well as on fibrous succulent plants such as yucca and prickly pear. This diet was higher fiber than anything modern people eat. The feces were three-quarters fiber by volume, Reinhard said, and these Native Americans were probably eating between 200 and 400 grams of the indigestible stuff per day. For comparison, the Institute of Medicine recommends 25 grams of fiber a day for the modern woman, and 38 grams for men. The average adult manages only about 15 grams. [8 Reasons Our Waistlines Are Expanding]
Modern agriculture has favored plants with less fiber, Reinhard said, so even the ancient tribes' maize would have been more fibrous than the corn we eat today.
"When I was a young researcher I tried to replicate this diet, and it was impossible," Reinhard said. "I was essentially eating all day to try to get this fiber."
Evolving diets
In addition, Reinhard and his colleagues reported in the August issue of the journal Current Anthropology, the Southwest Native American diet had a very low glycemic index. Prickly pear pads, a common staple, rate only a 7 on the 100-point GI scale. The highest-GI food these tribes would have had was maize, the researchers found, which would fall at about 57 on the scale ? just two points shy of qualifying as a "low-GI" food today. (Modern sweet corn on the cob has a GI of 60; processed foods like white rice and bagels are in the 90-95 range.)
In addition, prickly pear has a known blood-sugar-lowering effect, Reinhard said. Agave and yucca plants would have also had minimal effect on the blood sugar while providing yet more fiber. Rabbit, including bone fragments, was also found in the fecal fossils.
"The change we have undergone over generations has been toward less appreciation of really resistant foods and more toward what is called a 'Pablum' diet," Reinhard said. "It's kind of like going from chewing on pumpkin seeds to chewing on oatmeal."
The diet seen in the desert Southwest up to just 1,000 years ago is likely similar to what people ate the whole world over up until about 15,000 years ago, Reinhard said. And then humans invented agriculture, cultivating wheat, millet, rice and other grains.
"These plants, as they were cultivated, replaced the really, really ancient foods that everybody ate thousands and thousands of years ago with calorie-dense foods, or grains that could be turned into calorie-dense foods like grains, rice cakes, and, of course, alcoholic beverages," Reinhard said.

Who do you like better: Batman or Superman?
Entrepreneurs and solo marketers are like Batman.
I?m partial to Batman. Don?t get me wrong, as a kid I loved Superman the best: super strength, flying, invincibility, x-ray vision, heat-ray vision, he was the ultimate superhero. As I grew up, however, I learned to appreciate the depth and finesse of Batman. Here was a normal guy, trained to the height of human perfection in his athletic and combat abilities, a master detective and brilliant combat strategist who fought a host of super-psychopaths with often only his wits to save him.
So what does this have to do with marketing basics and selling stuff online?
There are mainly two types of marketers selling online: those working for large organizations with all sorts of powers at their disposal, and entrepreneur style marketers who have less in terms of ?powers? but more flexibility and creativity than the big guys. I like to think of the corporate marketers like Superman and entrepreneur marketers like Batman. This post will take a look at how these Dark Knights operate and provide some basic moves to help you kick ass in your own entrepreneurial marketing.
Bruce Wayne?s mission starts with his parents? murder.
For those who do not know the story of Batman, he is really Bruce Wayne, a Gothom City billionaire whose parents were murdered in front of him by a mugger when he was only 12-years old. That traumatic event drove him to become the worlds greatest weapon against crime, putting himself through rigorous training for 15-years before hitting the streets. He donned the costume of a bat and employed unusual weapons to become something bigger than life, instilling complete fear in his targets.
Marketers must view their job as a mission, much like Batman. You have something of value to sell, so you need to find the right buyers and make the sale happen by presenting your product in a way that captivates them. Use all the tools at your disposal:
Besides just knowing who you are going after, you need to know their modus operandi: what will be effective in the fight? Are there certain style choices that increase your chances of making the sale happen? Daren Rowse from Pro Blogger offered a list of tips to increasing indirect sales, which included: using bigger font, creating squeeze pages to capture leads, ask for what you want up front, applying the less is more concept, and introducing yourself to the customer and many others. Batman doesn?t just know his targets ? he knows how to get them.
Landing pages are the base of operations for any online sales.
Batman couldn?t operate without a base of operations. He does all his planning, training and analysis from the comforts of his Batcave. For the marketer selling online, your Batcave is the landing page or opt-in form where you are going to capture leads and sell the product.
The main difference between a landing page and an opt-in form is size. Landing pages contain more information to convince people to join the list and buy your product. The opt-in form usually has a few lines of text and a sign up form. You will typically use an opt-in form earlier in the product launch process to capture leads for later follow up. A landing page can also be used to generate leads or for direct sales.
A typical landing page will include the following components:
The text of the landing page can be long or short depending on your audience. On a site like Copyblogger, who sells premium products and courses to marketing professionals, their landing pages are long, content packed sales pieces. If you look at a video game sales site like Play-Asia, they have very short copy with pictures and video to make a quick sale. Whether long or short you need a base of operation for your sales.

What ?wonderful toys? are you using to sell online?
?Where does he get those wonderful toys?? ? Joker, Batman movie (1989)
Batman is known for the tools of his trade that he carries in his utility belt. From batarangs to grapple guns and anything else he might need for a tight situation, Batman comes prepared to get the job done.
To sell online you will need a way to fulfill orders, deliver the products and accept payments online. This section will focus on setting up a platform to deliver digital goods like eBooks, mP3 audio recordings, videos and other content. Selling ?real world? products has a different set of delivery mechanisms, considerations for fulfillment and nuances in marketing, and if you are interested in doing so then look into Google Checkout or Amazon.
For digital goods, e-junkie reigns as one of the best deals out there for both delivering your products and running affiliate programs (more on that below). There are plenty of sites you can use to sell online such as Clickbank, FatFreeCart and Bigmerce. You can also look into using WordPress plugins like Cashie Commerce if you are selling from a blog or website, or get creative selling your products in mini-format on a site like Fiverr. The reigning champ for online sales in my opinion though is eJunkie.
E-junkie is an online shopping cart that allows you to upload your digital goods to their eJunkie server, generates a secure link that prevents people from stealing and sharing your digital goods (you can even set this to expire after a certain amount of time), and tracks your sales. It does not process payments so you will need to set up a payment processor like PayPal to handle that (we will discuss below).
You can try E-Junkie for free with a a 7-day trial before deciding to commit to a monthly plan. Some eJunkie advice from Dave Navarro, The Luanch Coach: before you sign up for your account ?hop over to coupon site RetailMeNot.com, search for e-junkie, and you may find promotion codes that give you one to three months free on top of? your 7-day free trial.
Then follow these simple steps:
That?s pretty much it for eJunkie. If you want a more detailed tutorial then check out the link to Dave?s post that I give above or go to the eJunkie site itself and look through the Help section. Nothing works like giving it a shot however so the best advice I can give is play around and make it work.

What is your Batmobile for processing payments online?
Besides gadgets and weapons on his utility belt, Batman has some pretty cool ways of getting around Gotham City. Perhaps the most iconic of these is the Batmobile. Equipped with the latest technology this vehicle gets Batman where he needs to go. For selling stuff online, your Batmobile is the way the money gets delivered to you, and for that you will need a Payment Processor. Just as Batman has options to getting around (Batmobile, Batwing, or Batboat) you have some options when it comes to getting paid online.
Direct Payment through your Bank
Setting this system up takes longer and has more requirements, but once in place it may be the smoothest transaction available. Here is what you need to do:
Using a Payment Processing Company
This is probably the most common form of payment for small business online as it includes solutions like PayPal and Google Checkout. These are easy to set up but getting the money out of the processing company account takes time (usually 4 to 8 business days).
The two main examples of Gateway Payments are Google Checkout and PayPal. Here are some points to consider for using these methods, which were originally published in an article on processing credit card payments online from Smashing Magazine:
Google Checkout
PayPal
At the end of the day, the payment processing system you choose will depend on your time, size of business and level of sales. If you are a bigger operation with more regular sales then you may want to set up a system with your business bank account. For a smaller operation selling products here and there setting up a quick system and expanding as you go will be the better course. No matter what you choose be like Batman and use the right vehicle for the job.
Create an army of affiliate sales people.
Even though Batman likes to work alone, he has an army behind him. At times this has been just Alfred, his butler, but as the years went on Batman took others into his ranks. Of course everyone knows about Robin (fun fact ? there have been at least 6 different people who assumed the mantle of Robin at one time or another: 1. Dick Grayson, 2. Jason Todd, 3. Tim Drake, 4. Stephanie Brown, 5. Damien Wayne, and 6. Carrie Kelly), but there are others such as Nightwing, Batgirl, Huntress, Oracle, and even Catwoman when she is on the right side of the law. Just like Batman has his army you need yours.
Think of affiliate sales people like your Bat Army. They are the troops who can help you defend the night. In basic terms, an affiliate is someone willing to sell your product on their site. Using eJunkie you can even provide them with a unique link that will let you track their sales performance. Anyone who clicks their link and completes the purchase has their sale attributed to that affiliate.
You can set up a general program that people sign up for on your website. For something like this you offer anywhere between 25% and 50% of the purchase price for any sales generated through their websites. If you want to approach someone with mega traffic on their site, you might offer an individual deal where they get 60% to 100% of the price (if you are looking to increase your traffic then giving away all the sales to this individual may be worth it).
Building an effective affiliate army goes beyond the scope of this post, but here are some quick tips to help you get started.
Quick Tips for Affiliate Marketing
The most important thing in running an affiliate army is managing it. Make sure your affiliates know what they are doing, have a reason to stay engaged and feel like they are part of something bigger. Everyone in the Bat Family has this and that?s why they are willing to risk life and limb for the Dark Knight.
The tips in this post are meant to help get you started in online sales. As you go along you will need to try things, develop new products and means of distribution, and fail at times. Don?t be discouraged. Look to Batman for your inspiration and remember that next time you can fail better. The important thing is not to give up the fight.

Penn State faced the threat of a four-year ban on playing football before the NCAA imposed sanctions this week over the school's handling of the Jerry Sandusky child molestation scandal, a university spokesman said Wednesday.
David La Torre said the potential for the multiyear "death penalty" was floated during discussions between Penn State President Rodney Erickson and NCAA officials before Penn State was hit Monday with a $60 million fine, a four-year bowl game ban, reduced football scholarships and the forfeiture of 112 wins.
The school trustees met with Erickson on the subject at a State College hotel Wednesday and afterward issued a statement calling the NCAA punishment "unfortunate" but better than the alternative ? the so-called "death penalty."
The penalty hasn't been used since the NCAA suspended Southern Methodist University for the 1987 season. SMU then sat out the '88 season on its own and has never fully recovered its status in college football.
Reporters on Wednesday were barred from the conference room where the Penn State trustees met, and trustees avoided them after the meeting broke up.
The potential for a four-year ban, first reported by ESPN, showed how high the stakes were as college sports' governing body considered how to respond to an internal school investigation by former FBI Director Louis Freeh that found former coach Joe Paterno and three other top college officials helped conceal reports that Sandusky, a former assistant coach, was abusing children.
NCAA president Mark Emmert said this week that if a total football ban had been imposed, other penalties would have accompanied it.
"If the death penalty were to be imposed, I'm quite sure that the executive committee and I ... would not have agreed to just the death penalty. It would have included other penalties as well," Emmert said as the sanctions were unveiled.
An NCAA spokeswoman declined further comment Wednesday on negotiations with Penn State.
Many alumni and some trustees were incensed over the unprecedented NCAA penalty ? which likely will cripple Penn State's football team for years to come ? and Penn State's quick acceptance of it.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Wednesday that Gov. Tom Corbett said the penalties "go well beyond" those responsible for the handling of the child sex abuse allegations, and he's concerned about the impact on current students who are "bearing the brunt" of the sanctions.
A person with knowledge of the meeting said earlier Wednesday that trustees were to discuss whether Erickson had the authority to agree to the sanctions without first getting the board's approval. The person was not authorized to discuss the meeting and spoke on condition of anonymity.
Some trustees had expressed concern that Erickson may have violated a board rule that says the board must authorize the signing of "contracts, legal documents, and other obligations."
The board statement made no reference to the propriety of what Erickson had done, saying trustees held a discussion but did not take any votes.
"The board finds the punitive sanctions difficult and the process with the NCAA unfortunate," the statement said. "But as we understand it, the alternatives were worse as confirmed by NCAA President Mark Emmert's recent statement that Penn State was likely facing a multi-year death sentence."
La Torre said Wednesday that Erickson had authority to act without the approval of the full board.

The lack of even one openly gay or lesbian living astronaut in the history of American spaceflight may reflect the culture at the NASA astronaut office

Three hundred and thirty American men and women have served as astronauts since the start of NASA's human spaceflight program. Only one is publicly known to have been gay or bisexual ? Sally Ride ? and she kept it private until her death, yesterday (July 23), when her obituary on the Sally Ride Science organization's website stated that Ride was survived by Tam O'Shaughnessy, her "partner of 27 years."
As the first American woman in space and a scientist, Ride served as a role model for generations of young girls. Now, she'll serve as a role model for LGBT youth as well, said her sister, Bear Ride. "I hope it makes it easier for kids growing up gay that they know that another one of their heroes was like them," Bear Ride, who identifies as gay, told?Buzzfeed?yesterday.
Gay rights advocates say Sally Ride's addition to the ranks of LGBT role models will make a tremendous impact. "Role models are incredibly valuable for everyone, but I think especially for LGBT youth, who may be born into a family where they don't have an LGBT role model. It is so important for them to look out into the world and see they could be welcome in that world," Stuart Gaffney, media director at Marriage Equality USA, told SPACE.com. "Sally Ride will be that for them now."
Human Rights Campaign president Chad Griffin concurred, telling Buzzfeed, "The fact that Sally Ride was a lesbian will further help round out Americans' understanding of the contributions of LGBT Americans to our country." [Astronaut Sally Ride: In Her Own Words]
Ride's decision to keep her sexual orientation private reflects her very private nature, sources said. But the lack of even one openly gay or lesbian astronaut in the history of American spaceflight may reflect the culture at the NASA astronaut office. Although NASA does not discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation, Michael Cassutt, author of five books and hundreds of articles about human spaceflight, said coming out would until recently have been "a career-wrecker" for an astronaut. "Not for any formal reason, but in the same way that any medical issue or even some kind of notoriety has been an astronaut career-wrecker," Cassutt told SPACE.com.
"Any issue that detracts from the mission is or has been the kind of thing an astronaut wants to avoid. It isn't NASA politics; it is NASA politics as practiced at the astronaut office," Cassutt said, adding that the office has often resembled a "military squadron."
A NASA spokesman told SPACE.com that astronauts decide for themselves what to reveal about their private lives.
"Certainly we try to be open with their professional activities and beyond that what they reveal privately is pretty much up to them," said the spokesman, who asked not to be named. Still, the fact remains that no astronauts have ever come out as?gay?or?lesbian, while many astronauts include mention of their husbands, wives or children on their NASA official biography pages. (As of today, Ride's NASA bio page was updated to mention that she is survived by her mother, with no mention of her partner.)
Cassutt said even though he suspects there are or have been some other gay or lesbian astronauts, and in spite of the progress made on LGBT issues, "I don't expect anyone in the current corps to be 'out' any time soon, assuming anyone is gay."
The implication is that even in 2012, a same-sex orientation could still earn an astronaut unwanted notoriety that would detract from a mission. Robert Pearlman, space historian and founding editor of collectSPACE.com?(a SPACE.com partner site), said the choice to shield one's sexuality "unfortunately cannot yet be labeled 'behind the times.' While there are a great many more people who are openly gay today, we are not yet to a point of universal acceptance," he noted.
