Children And Teens Are Increasingly Becoming Obese | Honest ...

Most weight-related health conditions involve time. What this means is that it can sometimes take a lot of time for symptoms of these problems to become apparent. Of course, particularly in the case of childhood obesity, early years of the condition can set things in motion for problems later on. Even so, children will tend to have fewer medical problems due to obesity because they are young. But, the very condition itself is referred to as being a risk factor for later complications and disease conditions. Liver disease, heart disease, high blood pressure, certain kinds of cancer, diabetes and stroke are all serious possibilities.

High blood pressure and hypertension are pretty much synonymous with obesity no matter how old a person is. While there are some severe medical conditions wont be seen in childhood obesity sufferers while there are some others are a lot more likely to show up. High blood pressure is one of them, and it is commonly diagnosed in younger people who are significantly overweight or obese. Not only is there physical stress put on the body from the extra weight; there is intense psychological stress as well. Kids who are obese are forced to endure both physical and verbal abuse from peers. It build and builds and becomes a very stressful situation for the child which then leads to high blood pressure. Research has been conducted everywhere that confirms that obstructive sleep apnea is a lot more widespread in children and teens who are obese. This specific condition is quite serious because what happens is that the childs airway gets blocked when he or she is asleep. Kids who are overweight and obese are more likely to snore too but, according to researchers, that is actually deceiving. Sometimes kids snore because they have what is called OSA or obstructive sleep apnea. The adenotonsillectomy is one possible solution to the problem of sleep apnea in children and teens who are obese.

Science is still trying to puzzle out whether or not early onset obesity has a direct relationship with early onset puberty. However, there is a certain amount of common sense looking at what is known. For example, it is known that obese and overweight children grow at a faster rate, and they do enter puberty earlier. It is still a situation, however, in which causality needs to be more definitely defined. While this is obviously not that serious a threat as the other obesity related problems, there are definitely serious implications that accompany abnormally young ages for the onset of puberty. There is a real problem with kids and teens who suffer from obesity that affects other people too. You should also think about this in terms of the cost it puts on society. Obese kids will usually become obese adults, and there are costs associated with medical, lost time from work, etc. This means that it is really a problem for society as a whole though few people grasp that.
